Such a design is sub-optimal, inheriting legacy compromises made in the analog design while discarding important design options unique to the DSP domain. In part I of this two part paper, we used multirate processing to transform a digital down converter from an emulation of the standard analog architecture to a DSP based solution that reversed the order of frequency selection, filtering, and resampling.
