The behavior of the interface between Ottawa sand and steel has been studied using a new device known as the Cyclic-Multi-Degree-of-Freedom device with pore pressure measurements (CYMDOF-P). The device can automatically load and test dry or saturated interfaces and has the capability of performing simple shear tests. A series of static and cyclic displacement-controlled interface tests are described. The variables were type of loading, normal stress, drainage conditions, and rate of loading. The results of the laboratory tests are used to determine the parameters for use in the disturbed state interface model to describe the interface shear stress-deformation response.
