Aims: Elders with type 2 diabetes represent the faster growing demographic segment today, yet there is little known about the factors that influence their diabetes self care management. The factors (age related developmental deficits, health literacy, knowledge of diabetes as a disease, and prior attendance within a structured diabetes educational program) that most impact diabetes self care among this age group was determined from the literature.
