The adaptation of the electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) for monitoring of subsurface hydrological processes is the focus of this research. Specifically, the increase in the method's accuracy, expressed by its spatial and temporal resolution, is sought. A spatial sensitivity analysis of the ERT method is presented. This sensitivity analysis is conducted by a perturbation approach, and is making extensive use of the analytic element method (AEM) to compute potentials in the subsurface. Presented are sensitivity maps for individual typical and atypical. arrays. Also presented are sensitivity maps for surveys comprised of a single array type and for mixed surveys, and guidelines for array selection for the detection of a localized target....
