Growth factors of the TGF-β superfamily play a role in all stages of prenatal myogenesis and govern adult muscle maintenance. Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are members of the TGF-β subfamily and are key signals that regulate embryonic and fetal muscle development. This work investigates the role of BMP signaling in muscle stem cells of the postnatal muscle, the satellite cells. These cells are required for the growth of skeletal muscle at early postnatal age.
