Seine Aktivität wird durch verschiedene Rezeptoren vermittelt, wie KDR (kinase-insert-domain-receptor, VEGF-Rezeptor 2). In der vorliegenden Studie wurde der KDR in verschiedenen Affengeweben immunhistochemisch lokalisiert. Der Rezeptor wurde auf Endothelzellen sowie in nicht-endothelialem Gewebe, wie z.B. Drüsenepithel, Lymphozyten und glatte Muskelzellen, nachgewiesen. In dieser Studie konnten Chondrozyten, Herzmuskelzellen und Fibrozyten erstmalig als KDR-exprimierende Strukturen nachgewiesen werden.Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) plays a pivotal role in the regulation of angiogenesis under physiological conditions and in various diseases (i.e. neoplasia).Its activity is mediated through specific receptors like KDR (kinase-insert-domain-receptor, VEGF-receptor-2). In this study, the KDR was localized immunhistochemically in several normal tissues of monkeys. Its presence was found on endothelial cells as well as in other non- endothelial tissues, i.e. epithelium of glands, lymphocytes and smooth muscle cells.
