Humanem rekombinantem Erythropoietin (EPO) wird seit einiger Zeit die Fähigkeit zugesprochen, eine starke protektive Wirkung gegen ischämische Schädigung in verschiedenen Geweben auszuüben. Sowohl im Herzen als auch in neuronalem Gewebe wurde durch eine Vorbehandlung mit EPO bereits eine signifikante Reduktion des Zellschadens nach ischämischen Episoden erreicht. Auch im Ischämiemodell der Leber gibt es bereits Untersuchungen, die auf eine solche Wirkung hinweisen. Ziel dieser Arbeit war die Untersuchung der Auswirkungen von EPO auf den Ischämie-/Reperfusionsschaden im Lebertransplantationsmodell bei der Ratte.
