Aus einer natürlich mit Scrapie infizierten Herde standen Gewebeproben von sechs Ziegen und 169 Schafen mit empfänglichen Genotypen zur Verfügung, die auf das Vorhandensein des Scrapie-Erregers untersucht wurden. 40 Schafe zeigten bei der Untersuchung des Stammhirns mittels Schnelltest ein positives Ergebnis. Die 129 Schafe und sechs Ziegen, die im Stammhirn negativ waren, wurden in weiteren Geweben untersucht. Ziel der Untersuchung war einerseits, die Aussagekraft des Untersuchungsmaterials Obex für den TSE-Status des Tieres und andererseits, die tatsächliche Prävalenz von Scrapie in einer betroffenen Herde festzustellen.
