Introduction: Schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease of high prevalence; it is a major global public health concern with more than 200 million people affected in 78 tropical to subtropical countries. However, in schistosomiasis non-endemic countries the infection is also regularly found among returning travellers and migrants from endemic countries. Methods: The European Network for Tropical Medicine and Travel Health conducted a surveillance study on imported schistosomiasis to Europe between the years 1997 and 2010.
