References ................................. .............................................................................. 135This work investigates factors controlling the segmentation of the Andean margin. It is formed by three chapters, whose methods, results and conclusions can be summarized as follow: The elastic thickness of the Andean forearc is maximum between 15° and 23°S, decreasing southward and toward the very weak orogen. Interpreting these trends suggests that: the subduction-related thermal structure dominates rigidity variations; southward weakening of the forearc is caused by decreasing age of the slab; the forearc is a rigid geotectonic element; thick, quartz-rich crust and low strain rate-to-heat flow ratio cause low cordilleran rigidity; strength below the Altiplano localizes in an upper-crustal layer whose base correlates with a geophysical discontinuity; the forearc-plateau boundary is a zone of changing thermal conditions, eastward-increasing crustal thickness and felsic component in the crust, and low strain-rate deformation, correlating at the surface with a west-verging structural system. These conclusions suggest that the forearc acts as a pseudo-indenter against the weak plateau allowing accumulation of ductile crust that moves westward from the foreland. This model integrates contradicting ideas on the relative importance of upper-crustal structures and lower crustal accumulation. The design of a gravity-based Earth model for the Andes require knowledge of the effect exerted on density by several potential factors. This motivates petrophysical modelling for 55 major element analyses characterizing active continental margins. Mineral assemblages and densities were computed using two thermodynamic approaches along conductive geotherms for arcs and shields. Under dry conditions density is inversely correlated with SiO2 for all PT conditions. Empirical relationships with correlation factors > 0.9 allow density to be estimated from silica content at critical conditions. These relationships also hold for wet, melt-containing crustal columns of acidic to intermediate composition but cannot be applied for basic compositions: Mafic rocks absorb significant amounts of water in amphiboles, strongly reducing their density with respect to dry garnet-pyroxene granulites. This suggests that hydrated and partially molten lower-crustal zones along magmatic arcs thinner than 50 km could contain large amounts of basic material in a gravitationally stable situation. The results also suggest restricted conditions for the removal of crust into the mantle. Forward modelling of Bouguer anomalies produced a three-dimensional representation of the continental-scale density structure for the oceanic Nazca plate, the subducted slab and the Andean margin. These major units are formed by a number of bodies, whose density was predefined in accordance to petrological considerations. Independent information constrains the geometry of the slab, locally the oceanic and continental Moho, and indirectly the lithosphere- asthenosphere boundary. The intracrustal density discontinuity was not constrained: It results by fitting observed and calculated Bouguer anomalies. The model is presented with the aim to serve as a tool for further interpretations and some results are discussed in order to show the potential application of the model to the study of a wide range of Andean geodynamic processes.Diese Arbeit untersucht die Kontrollfaktoren für die Segmentierung des andinen Kontinentalrandes. Diese Trends lassen folgende Interpretationen zu: Die subduktionsabhängige thermische Struktur kontrolliert die Variationen in der Rigidität; Die nach Süden beobachtete Schwächung des Forearcs ist vom abnehmendem Alter des Platte abhängig; Der Forearc darstellt ein rigides, tektonisches Element; Eine dicke, quarzreiche Kruste sowie ein niedriges Verhältnis von Strainrate zum Wärmefluss verursachen eine niedrige Rigidität im Bereich der Kordillere; Festigkeit unter dem Altiplano wird in einem ober-krustalle Bereich lokalisiert, denen Unterseite mit einer geophysikalischen Diskontinuität korreliert. Die Grenze des Forearc-Plateaus ist zugleich eine Zone, in der sich der thermische Zustand ändert, die krustale Dicke und die felsische Komponente nach Osten zunimmt und Deformationen mit einer niedrigen Strainrate stattfinden. Diese Beobachtungen korrelieren an der Oberfläche mit einem westvergenten Struktursystem. Diese Ergebnisse legen den Schluss nahe, dass der Forearc als Pseudo-Indenter des schwachen Plateaus fungiert und die Akkumulation von duktiler Kruste zulädt, die sich vom Vorland nach Westen bewegt. Das Erstellen eines 3D-Dichtemodells für die Anden erfordert eine genaue Kenntnis aller jener Faktoren, die Einfluss auf die Dichte haben. Folgerichtig beschäftigt sich der nächste Teil mit einer petrophysikalische Modellierung von 55 geochemische Analyse, die am Aufbau der Gesteine an aktiven Kontinentalrändern beteiligt sind. Mineralzusammensetzungen und Dichten wurden mit Hilfe zwei thermodynamischer Werkzeuge und Bögen- und Schilde-Geothermen gerechnet. Unter trockenen Bedingungen ist die Dichte antikorreliert mit dem Gehalt von SiO2 für alle Druck- und Temperaturbedingungen. Empirische Beziehungen mit einem Korrelationskoeffizienten von > 0,9 erlauben es, die Dichte aus dem Gehalt von Silizium unter kritischen Bedingungen abzuleiten. Diese Beziehungen gelten auch für wasserhaltige, schmelzhaltige, krustale Bereiche mit saurer bis intermediärer Komposition. Sie gelten nicht für basische Kompositionen, da mafische Gesteine signifikante Anteile an Wasser in den Amphibolen aufnehmen, die die Dichte im Vergleich mit trockenen Granat-Pyroxen-Granuliten erheblich verringern. Dieser Befund deutet darauf hin, dass hydrierte und teilgeschmolzene unterkrustalle Bereiche mit Tiefen < 50 km unter den magmatischen Bögen größere Mengen basischen Materials in einem Schweregleichgewicht beinhalten können. Die entsprechenden Ergebnisse geben ebenfalls Hinweise auf die Bedingungen, unter denen Kruste in den Mantel abgeführt wird. Die Vorwärtsmodellierung der Bougueranomalie ergaben ein großskaliges Bild der Dichteverteilung für die ozeanische Nazca-Platte, die subduktierte Platte und den andinen Kontinentalrand. Diese Haupteinheiten wurden im Modell durch 3D-Körper approximiert, deren Dichten auf der Grundlage petrologischer Annahmen festgelegt wurden. Unabhängige Randwerte legen die Geometrie für die Platte, die ozeanische und kontinentale Moho und - indirekt - auch die Lithosphären-Asthenosphärengrenze fest. Lediglich die innerkrustale Diskontinuität war nicht abgesichert - diese wurde dadurch bestimmt, dass das modellierte und gemessene Schwerefeld interaktiv angepasst wurde. Die Modellrechnungen verfolgten das Ziel, eine abgesicherte Struktur des Untergrundes zu haben, die für weitergehende Interpretationen dient. Einige dieser Interpretationen werden näher diskutiert, um zu zeigen, welches Potenzial ein solches Dichtemodell für das Studium dynamischer Prozesse im andinen Raum enthält
