HabilitationsschriftEntkopplerproteine 1 (UCP1) und 2 (UCP2) gehören zu der großen Familie mitochondrialer Aniontransporter. Das zuerst entdeckte und am meisten untersuchte Mitglied der UCP-Subfamilie - UCP1 - ist ein Transporter, der die Kopplung der mitochondrialen Respiration zur ATP-Synthese aufhebt und dadurch eine wichtige Rolle bei der zitterfreien Thermogenese im braunen Fettgewebe spielt. Im Gegensatz zu UCP1 ist UCP2 nicht in die Thermoregulation, sondern in Diabetes, Apoptose, Neurodegeneration, lipid-vermittelten oxidativen Stress u.a. involviert.
