The honeybee (Apis mellifera) is an excellent model organism for social and navigational aspects of ethology. It is also heavily investigated with regard to neuronal circuits involved in vision, olfaction and memory. The aim of the current study is to correlate for the first time those peculiar and complex behaviours with the activity of neurons in certain brain areas. There is no knowledge yet on how social interactions are represented in the brain of an insect.
