Of the Intersubjective Dimension of Narrative Identity Constitution

Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht narrative Identitätskonstitution als intersubjektives Geschehen. Damit wendet sie sich gegen ein monologisches Verständnis von Identitätskonstitution und zeigt dessen Probleme auf. Es wird argumentiert, dass diesen Problemen entgangen wird, wenn narrative Identitätskonstitution intersubjektiv verstanden wird. Dementsprechend wird Identitätskonstitution als Anerkennungsprozess erläutert, in dem viele Autorinnen in einem Aushandlungsgeschehen an der Identität einer Person mitwirken. Dieses Aushandeln ist dabei wesentlich unabgeschlossen und konfliktreich.This thesis examines the narrative constitution of identity as an intersubjective process. By doing so, it turns against an understanding of identity according to which someone constitutes herself by narrating herself. In the thesis, it is shown that such an understanding is problematic in various ways. It is then argued that one can solve these problems by explaining narrative identity-constitution as an intersubjective process. In doing so, the process is unfolded as a process of recognition where many authors take part in the constitution of a person's identity.
