Das Karpaltunnelsyndrom ist das häufigste Nervenkompressionssyndrom. Die Diagnose basiert auf anamnestischen Angaben, aber auch auf klinischen Tests. Zur Diagnosesicherung und Verlaufskontrolle ist die elektrophysiologische Untersuchung erforderlich. Vor einer operativen Therapie sollten die konservativen Behandlungs-möglichkeiten berücksichtigt werden. Unter den operativen Therapien konkurrieren die offenen und endoskopischen Techniken miteinander. Bei dem endoskopischen Verfahren kommt es weniger zu schmerzhaften Narben. Dafür ist das Risiko der Nerven- und Gefäßverletzungen im Vergleich zur offenen Technik größer. Die höheren Operationskosten sprechen ebenfalls gegen die endoskopischen Verfahren.
