Isolates of Vibrio parahaemolyticus (VpAHPND) that carry a plasmid encoding two Pir-like toxins cause acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND), a disease that has caused devastating economic losses to the shrimp industry, particularly in Asia.
