The Thorold Horticultural Society was founded in 1929, with Thomas Flummerfelt as President, Col. D.J.C. Munro as Vice-President, and Arthur Lewis as Secretary-Treasurer. Forty-one members were enrolled at the Society’s founding on February 21, 1929. Early activities included garden contests, flower shows, community beautification projects, and educating school children about horticulture. The Society continues to reach out to local students, encouraging the growth of pollinator gardens and educating the community about the environment. Around 2017, the Society’s name changed to the Thorold Garden Club in an effort to attract more young people.
