Infectious diseases are common in childhood and are the most important reason for physician consultations in children. An increasing body of evidence suggests that early childhood infections might also be associated with negative long-term health effects, in particular overweight and atherosclerosis. This thesis describes research on different measures of childhood infections in relation to risk factors and long-term consequences.
