The definitive version is available at: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/journal/03783774From a historical perspective, the Plant Water Relations (PWR) Group of the Spanish Society of Plant Physiology (SEFV) was created in the early 90 s. As previously stated by Fernández and Torrecillas (2012), on the occasion of the IX Meeting of the SEFV and the II Spanish-Portuguese Congress of Plant Physiology (held in Madrid in 1991), plant biology researchers from the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INIA), the Institute of Agri-food Research and Technology (IRTA), the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), and the University of Barcelona (UB) had the idea of creating the SEFV PWR Group. The aim of the PWR Group was, and continues being, to promote research and education related to plant water relations. The Simposio Hispano-Portugués de Relaciones Hídricas en las Plantas and the “Iberian Research Award on Plant Water Relations for Young Researchers” are among the activities supported by the PWR Group. This virtual special issue (VSI) of Agricultural Water Management is edited on the occasion of the XIII edition of the mentioned Simposio, held in Pamplona (Navarra, Spain) in October 2016.Peer reviewe
