Selected characteristics of the mobility in adolescent swimmers

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to evaluate the mobility of the backbone, the condition of flat foot and the basic anthropological characteristics of adolescent swimmers. The research participated 36 boys aged 15-18 from swimming group of South Bohemian Region. The basic somatic proportions like body weight, body height, circumference proportions (of right arm, abdomen, sides and right thigh) and skinfolds (above biceps, triceps, subscapular, suprailiac and on the thigh) were selected from the detected values. The Body Mass Index was calculated from the values of body weight and height. The results of the basic body characteristics of our group of adolescent swimmers and the referential group of adolescent hockey players are not significantly different from the results of participants of Czechoslovakian gymnastic performance in 1985. Compared to the group of adolescent hockey players, statistically highly significant differences in values were detected in BMI and skinfolds above triceps, subscapular and suprailiac in favor of hockey players. The bachelor thesis also deals with the evaluation of the mobility of the backbone and flat foot. From the tests that evaluate the backbone mobility were selected: symptom of Stibor, symptom of Otto, symptom of Schober, symptom of Cepoj, the test of lateroflex, the scarf test and modified symptom of Thomayer. The most interesting tests of the backbone are symptom of Stibor and symptom of Otto in forward bend. In these cases, the swimmers achieved better results than hockey players.
