L’open access marque une rupture dans l’évolution de l’édition scientifique. Ayant pour but de permettre le partage des connaissances, il suppose de rendre accessibles gratuitement, sur Internet, les publications scientifiques et d’en faciliter ainsi l’exploitation. Il est né en réaction aux pratiques de certains éditeurs qui ont profité du numérique notamment pour augmenter le prix des abonnements aux revues.
