L’article présente plusieurs expériences qui montrent que les conférences scientifiques les plus prestigieuses, les meilleures revues et les plus grands éditeurs scientifiques ne sont pas à l’abri des fraudes et des manipulations à une grande échelle. La multiplication des fraudes scientifiques s’explique d’abord par la place prise par les indices bibliométriques dans l’évaluation des chercheurs et des laboratoires. Les mauvaises pratiques et la fraude sont les sous-produits non désirés mais logiques d’un système où l’on compte les publications sans les lire et où le facteur d’impact (H-index) dispense de s’interroger sur la portée des recherches.
