Effect of temperature on the oxidation behaviour of Fe3Al-Fe3AlC0.69 and FeAl-Fe3AlC0.69 alloys were studied. Physical metallurgy of these alloys with change in temperature was discussed along with the inversion of oxidation based on the Fe-Al-C phase diagram. Two kinds of inversion in oxidation were observed; in Fe3Al-Fe3AlC0.69 alloys inversion was attributed to the reduction in Fe3AlC phase, whereas in FeAl-Fe3AlC0.69 alloys it was due to the preferential oxidation of Al from the FeAl phase. A schematic model was drawn to explain these inversions of oxidation behaviour. (C) 2003 .
