This paper examines the effect of surface roughness in hydrodynamic narrow porous journal bearings operating under steady conditions. The problem is formulated mathematically and solved analytically with appropriate boundary conditions. It is shown that the results are significantly different than those for the case of an infinitely long journal bearing. [S0742-4787(00)00602-0]
