Eimeria is an obligate intracellular parasite which invades the intestinal tract of fowl and causes coccidiosis. There are seven known species of avian Eimeria: E. acervulina, E. brunetti, E. maxima, E. mitis, E. necatrix, E. praecox and E. tenella (Williams, 1996)
