In Malaysia, the number of dialysis patient keeps increasing every year with an estimation of 5,000 new cases of end-stage kidney failure (ESRD) each year. Thus, the development of an efficient haemodialyser is crucial to meet this demand. The objective of this research is to develop a biocompatible asymmetric, ultrafiltration hollow fibre membrane (HFM) for haemodialysis application. Polyethersulfone (PES) was chosen as the main polymer in the fabrication of the haemodialysis HFM due to its outstanding oxidative, thermal and hydrolytic stability as well as good mechanical and film-forming properties.
