An excimer laser (193 nm) was used to ablate discs 1.5 mm in diameter into the anterior surface of rabbit corneas. The bed of each disc was then labelled with dichlorotriazinyl aminofluorescein and animals sacrificed at intervals of one or two months. This technique demonstrates the deposition of new collagen beneath the epithelium during the process of corneal remodelling after deep keratectomy
