This dissertation investigates initial decisions and owner’s characteristics of 4928 US start-ups born in 2004. These choices relate to Business characteristics and Human Capital of the founder. Data on the first eight years of operation was made available by the yearly Kauffman Firm Survey. After analyzing the characteristics and initial decisions of the newborn firms, their relationship with the initial access to funding was studied. It indicates that multiple owners, in particular and Human Capital have a positive impact on total access to funding and other more specific credit sources. The data covers the years of 2004 through 2011 which allowed the investigation of the correlation between Business, Founder and Financial characteristics...
