The aim of the thesis is to review the main theories in social capital formation and accumulation. In particular we will focus on the possibility to end up in scenarios characterized by low levels of social participation, ie. social poverty trap. In the last chapter we develop a model of social capital accumulation, in which agents are heterogeneous with respect to the way social capital is considered in the optimization problem
