International audienceBACKGROUND: cardiovascular ageing is associated with an increase in cardiac susceptibility to ischaemia and reperfusion. This has been suggested to be partly related to an increased sensitivity of the myocardium to the reactive oxygen species that are produced during post-ischaemic reperfusion.
