Universal Multifractals (UM) have been extensively used to model and simulate geophysical fields extremely variable over a wide range of spatio-temporal scales such as rainfall. They rely on the concept of multiplicative cascades and enable to characterize the rainfall scaling variability with the help of only 3 parameters. In this paper we validate a refinement of this model in the discrete case that enables to better take into account the numerous zeros of the rainfall field (i.e. a pixel with no rainfall recorded). More precisely the zeros are introduced at each scale within the cascade process dependently on the value of the intensity and in a probabilistic scale invariant way. The results hint at possible standard values for UM paramet...
