Harehime\u27 is a relatively new citrus cultivar released in 2001 by the Department of Citrus Research, Okitsu, National Institute of Fruit Tree Science, National Agriculture and Bio-oriented Research Organization. It originated from a cross between\u27E-647\u27(\u27Kiyomi\u27x\u27Osceola\u27) and\u27Miyagawa wase\u27,made in 1990 at the Okitsu Branch of the Fruit Tree Research Station to breed superior early ripening mandarin-type cultivars. It was selected as a promising hybrid in 1996, and had been subjected to the local adaptability tests as\u27Kankitsu Okitsu 54\u27,conducted at 29 prefectural experimental stations in Japan.
