Editorial. El discurso del método de Maquiavelo. A propósito de los quinientos años de El Príncipe.

On the threshold of the modern age theories emerged that were contrary to the theological concepts predominating in the Middle Ages. The Italian thinker Nicolas Machiavelli (1469-1527) representing the nascent middle class is the typical exponent this epistemological rupture in social thinking. According to him society does not develop due to the divine will but according to natural laws and the causes that generate the development in history these being material interests and force. His principle contribution to political science and social sciences is to have studied the state as a social and historical reality and to deduce from reason and from experience the laws themselves and not from theology. He is considered as the founder of modern western political science for having conceived of it as an autonomous independent theory independent of religion and morality.Ad portas de la modernidad surgieron teorías contrarias a las concepciones teológicas, predominantes en el Medioevo. El pensador italiano Nicolás Maquiavelo (1469-1527), representante de la burguesía naciente, es el típico exponente de esta ruptura epistemológica en el pensamiento social. Según él, la sociedad no se desarrolla por la voluntad divina, sino de acuerdo con leyes naturales y las causas que generan el desarrollo de la historia, son el “interés material” y la fuerza. Su aporte principal a las ciencias políticas y sociales, es el de haber estudiado el Estado como una realidad social e histórica y de inferir de la razón y de la experiencia las leyes del mismo y no de la teología.
