Several heavy metals (Cu ++, Pb ++, Hg ++, C ++) Malus sylvestris Miller (Apple) and Cerasus vulgaris Miller (Cherry) plant germination and pollen tube growth effects

Generally all the metals which are density of 5g/cm3 or more elements are called heavy metals. Motor vehicles, mineral deposits and businesses, volcanic activity, fertilizers used in agriculture and medicine, and urban waste are among heavy metal resources. (Heavy metals), inhibit the physiological activity of the plants, reduce productivity and lead to death hence they cause to reduce product quality and quantity. Heavy metal toxicity in plants changes according to plant species, heavy metal type, the exposure to stress and the structure of the tissue or organ exposed to stress. In our study, it’s investigated that effect of Cu++, Pb++, Hg++, Cd++ heavy metals on Malus sylvestris Miller ve Cerasus vulgaris Miller plants pollen tube formation and performance. Pollens of Malus sylvestris Miller and Cerasus vulgaris Miller plants which located in remote areas from the pollutant factors in Elazig province and county, are used as research material. For pollen germination, Brewbaker Kwack culture medium is used as growth medium. In our study, the concentrations with 30, 60, 90, 120 ve 240 µM of heavy metals are used. Germination control and measurements are made with a light microscope. Acording to obtained results all heavy metal concentrations inhibits pollen germination and tube growth in different rates. It’s investigated that from heavy metals used for Malus sylvestris Miller plant in general the most prevent to pollen germination and tube length is copper, the heavy metal which most effects Cerasus vulgaris Miller plant’s pollen in terms of pollen germination and tube length is mercury.Genel olarak yoğunluğu 5 g/cm3 ten fazla olan elementlere “ağır metal” adı verilmektedir. Ağır metal kaynakları arasında motorlu taşıtlar, maden yatakları ve işletmeleri, volkanik faaliyetler, tarımda kullanılan gübre ve ilaçlar ile kentsel atıklar gelmektedir. Bitkilerin fizyolojik aktivitelerini engellemekte, verimliliklerini azaltmakta ve ölümlerine neden olmakta dolayısıyla ürün kalite ve miktarının azalmasına yol açmaktadırlar. Bitkilerde görülen ağır metal toksisitesi bitkinin türüne, ağır metal türüne, strese maruz kalma süresine ve strese maruz kalan doku veya organın yapısına bağlı olarak değişmektedir. Çalışmamızda Cu++, Pb++ , Hg++, Cd++ ağır metallerinin Malus sylvestris Miller ve Cerasus vulgaris Miller bitkisi polenlerinin tüp oluşumu ve performansı üzerine etkileri araştırılmıştır. Araştırma materyali olarak Elazığ ili ve ilçelerinde kirletici faktörlerden uzak bölgelerde bulunan Malus sylvestris Miller ve Cerasus vulgaris Miller bitkilerinin polenleri kullanılmıştır. Polenlerin çimlendirilmesi için, besiyeri ortamı olarak Brewbaker Kwack kültür ortamı kullanılmıştır. Araştırmamızda her iki bitki türü için de ağır metallerinin 30, 60, 90, 120 ve 240 µM’ lık konsantrasyonları kullanılmıştır. Çimlenme kontrolü ve ölçümler ışık mikroskobu ile yapılmışır. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre tüm ağır metal konsantrasyonları polen çimlenmesini ve tüp büyümesini farklı oranlarda inhibe etmiştir. Malus sylvestris Miller için kullanılan ağır metallerden genel olarak polen çimlenmesini ve tüp uzunluğunu en fazla engelleyen ağır metalin bakır, Cerasus vulgaris Miller bitkisi polenlerinin çimlenmesi ve tüp uzunluğu bakımından en fazla etkileyen ağır metalin ise civa olduğu belirlenmiştir
