In Clostridium acetobutylicum wurden sechs SASPs auf ihre Funktion hinsichtlich der Resistenz und Keimungsfähigkeit von Sporen untersucht. Zudem wurden zwei Germinationsproteasen analysiert, die für den Abbau der SASPs verantwortlich sein könnten. Für C. acetobutylicum konnte ein bisher einzigartiges Ergebnis demonstriert werden, indem SspA als alleiniges Haupt-SASP ~93 % der Gesamt-SASPs ausmacht, mit dramatischen Folgen für die Entwicklung der neuen Zellen einer SspA-negativen Mutante.
