Die Arbeit zeigt anhand von Mikrodaten der gesetzlichen Rentenversicherung, dass deutsche Männer eine umso höhere Sterblichkeit haben, je früher sie eine Rente beziehen. Bei den weiblichen Altersrentnern ist die Lebenserwartung hingegen relativ unabhängig vom Renteneintrittsalter. Versicherungsmathematische Frühverrentungsabschläge sollen die finanziellen Folgen der längeren Bezugsdauer kompensieren.
