BOJE U ENGLESKIM IDIOMIMA I POSLOVICAMA

The goal of this thesis was to analyse idioms and proverbs containing colour terms in order to determine their frequency in English language and to provide examples of their usage. The theoretical part of the thesis explains the role of colours in linguistics and in culture. Precise definitions of idioms and proverbs are provided as well as their main characteristics. In the practical part English idioms and proverbs containing colour terms are listed after searching various English dictionaries followed by a brief analysis and finally, a graphical representation of their frequency.Cilj ovog rada je analizirati idiome i poslovice koji sadrže boje kako bi se odredila njihova učestalost u engleskom jeziku te ponuditi primjere njihovog korištenja. Teoretski dio rada objašnjava ulogu boja u lingvistici i u kulturi. Navedene su i precizne definicije idioma i poslovica kao i njihove glavne karakteristike. Nakon pretraživanja raznih engleskih rječnika, u praktičnom dijelu su navedeni engleski idiomi i poslovice koji sadrže boje. Slijedi ih kratka analiza te grafička reprezentacija njihove učestalosti
