It is well known that combustion of biomass derivedfuels may lead to problems with high-temperaturecorrosion (HTC). The HTC process is largely based onthe release and transformation of chlorine and alkalimatter together with sulphur compounds during thecombustion process. However, these components mayalso interact with other critical parts of the combustionchemistry and the present work focuses on howpotassium chloride and sulphur dioxide may influencethe oxidation of carbon monoxide (CO) and theformation of nitrogen monoxide (NO)
