The purpose of this thesis is to examine how different forms of online advertising influence online purchase behavior in the multichannel online marketing environment. This research draws on and contributes to three streams of literature – advertising effectiveness, online purchase behavior and multichannel online advertising – through the following research questions: What is online advertising and how is its effectiveness measured? What constitutes online purchase behavior? How can firms leverage multichannel online advertising to influence the conversion chain?
