Cargo pump is one type of tool that is on the ship that serves to move the liquid charge from one place to another through a media piping by adding energy to the fluid that is moved and lasted continuously. Aboard the ship, especially the type of cargo tanker pump is very instrumental in the smooth process of loading and unloading. The research method that writer use in this thesis preparation is FTA research method and using FISHBONE method as data analysis technique to analyze existing problems in Cargo Pump, and look for factors that influence mechanical seal damage to cargo pump. From these problems there are factors causing mechanical seal damage that is from the quality of mechanical seal that is not meet the standard, surface seal contaminated with dust and dirt, the application of PMS (Plant Maintenance System) that is not executed according to the provisions, and performance of machinists less than optimal. These factors are processed so that the strategy will be obtained to overcome these problems. Based on the results of research that has been done on the ship MT. Cipta Banten, it can be concluded that the factors affecting mechanical seal damage to the cargo pump caused by dust and dirt contamination on the mechanical seal can cause the quality of mechanical seals to decrease, resulting in less strength to block the very high load pressure.
