U svrhu epidemioloških analiza klinički mikrobiolozi dokazuju povezanost unutar grupe bakterijskih izolata, odnosno tipiziraju i dokazuju broj klonova unutar jedne bakterijske vrste. Cilj ovog rada bilo je molekularno tipiziranje dvije grupe izolata E. coli gel elektroforezom u pulsirajućem polju. To je metoda koja omogućuje razdvajanje velikih fragmenata DNA i do 10 Mb. Na temelju dobivenih rezultata određuje se sličnost među izolatima. U ovom radu također je testirana i osjetljivost ove dvije grupe izolata na standardne antibiotike, te je utvrđena razlika njihove osjetljivosti.
