International audienceThe numerical model was developed for the modeling of the spreading process of a fully molten particle impinging onto a rough flat substrate during the plasma spray process. The model is based on the finite element method and combines a Lagrangian formulation in calculating large deformation and an automatic adaptive remeshing technique to trace accurately the free surface and to ensure the uniform accuracy. A frictional contact condition at the particle-substrate interface was introduced to describe the effects of the substrate surface roughness.
