The essay presents an analysis of the series of „cathedral” poems written by Julian Przyboś, including Notre Dame, In front of Notre Dame after the years, Notre Dame III. When examining the semantic field, covering the vocabulary characteristic for these writings, one can im ply that the poems a llow to conceive the consecutive stages o f the route passed by Przybos w h ile considering the essence o f the process of artworks originating. His evolution leads from the firs t enchantment w ith the architecture, through interrogation about the builder o f the works, about the enigma of their creation, to the self-determination of the poethimself.
