This article deals with the problem of musical competence which, together with the listener’s knowledge of music, fulfills a very important role in the process of musical perception and, at the same time, in the process of its valuation. The author starts from the general cultural competence and going through language and artistic competences comes precisely to the musical competence. She presents the world famous model of musical competence by Gino Stefani in which there are five levels of competence: General Codes (GC), Social Practices (SP), Musical Techniques (MT), Style (ST) and Opus (OP).
