In this thesis the transport behaviour of one-dimensional arrays of Josephson junctions in the insulating phase is studied. A voltage biased array undergoes a transition from the Coulomb blockaded insulating to the transport regime at the switching voltage. We provide a quantitative expression for the switching voltage based on depinning theory. We also introduce the numerical stochastic Bloch-Redfield algorithm to simulate the transport of dressed Cooper pairs through the junction array
