The purpose of this study was to clear the relation between sight-reading ability and music dictation ability. Piano majors (N=23) served as participants. The investigation was constructed from two parts. In the first part, participants played 8 music excerpts on the piano to judge their abilities of sight-reading as expert or non-expert. In the second part, participants were tested their music listening abilities with music dictation tests, including a single melody, great staff, and four parts. Results from this investigation revealed a tendency ; the experts of sight-reading were good at listening clearly at the melody of left hand part in great staffs and four parts
