The present study investigated the lexical processing of Japanese Kanji-words in Japanese learners of Chinese by using an auditory cross-lingual priming method. In the experiment, proficient Chinese learners were asked to perform a lexical decision task involving Chinese words and non-words. The target Chinese words were selected by manipulating the orthographical and phonological similarities with Japanese. The results showed that in the words of low orthographical similarity and high phonological similarity, the Japanese phonological representation was activated as the same time as the conceptual representation.
