In this paper we advocate the development of a whole-school approach (WSA) to counteract bullying. The WSA works at different levels of intervention in order to involve all members of the school community. The approach also works across the curriculum to promote the message that conflict can be resolved peacefully, that bullying is unfair and unjust, and that all children have the right to come to school to learn and socialise in harmony and safety. The WSA addresses bullying at three different levels of intervention: working therapeutically with individuals at risk, working within classes and in small groups to foster positive relationships and resolve conflicts, and whole-school interventions that actively promote a positive school ethos ...
