This paper examines the change of time spent on unpaid work and paid work by dual-income couples and non dual-income couples. Analyses in this paper are based on data of 1991, 1996 and 2001 Survey on Time Use and Leisure Activities conducted by Statistics Bureau, Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications, Japan. Unpaid work includes cooking, cleaning, laundry, caring for adults, household chore, child care, shopping and voluntary work. The change or immutability was analyzed mainly from the viewpoint of family type of household.
