Roger Bacon’s vision of science

Straipsnyje analizuojama XIII amžiaus pranciškonų mokslininko Rogerio Bacono mokslo samprata. Baconas suvokė mokslo svarbą reformuojant visuomenės gyvenimą, todėl jo tikslas buvo įgyvendinti tarpdisciplininę komunikaciją. Jis siekė sukurti universalią mokslo sistemą (scientia integralis), kurioje derėtų tiek Biblija, tiek filosofija, tiek gamtos mokslai. Jungiančioji grandis šioje mokslų sistemoje yra matematika ir eksperimentinis mokslas (scientia experimentalis). Pasaulio ir gamtos supratimas, Bacono teigimu, galimas tik apjungiant proto ir eksperimento pradus. Bacono mokslo vizija analizuojama remiantis jo traktatu „Opus Maius“.The article considers the concept of science as it is expressed by 13th century Franciscan scientist Roger Bacon. Hi realized the importance of science for the reformation of social life and therefore strived to promote interdisciplinary communication. He sought to constitute the universal system of science (scientia integralis) which would encompass Bible, philosophy, and natural sciences. The integrating core of this system would be mathematics and experimental science (scientia experimentalis). According to the author, the cognition of the world and nature was possible if and only if the principles of reasoning and experimenting were united. Bacon’s vision is analyses is based on his treatise "Opus Maius"
