The Nowodworski Forest, formerly known as the Grodzieński Forest, was developed during the second half of the 16th century. The citizens of the villages were obliged to protect the wooden areas. The inhabitants of the west part of the forest obtained a new church in Chodorówka. Sigismund III Vasa gave the permission for Piotr Wiesiołowski (junior) to establish the parish with a church as its central part in Chodorówka and Suchowola. The church was built between 1596 and 1604, but was formally established in 1617. The newly created parish was spread on the territory of Chodorówka and Suchowola.
